Gary Arthur Johnson passed from this world on November 21, ending his yearlong battle with brain cancer. Gary leaves behind his loving wife Claire, son Grant, a sister, and a brother. His parents preceded him in death.

Gary graduated from Franklin High School in Reisterstown, Maryland, in 1964 and earned a degree in economics from California State University, Stanislaus in 1969. He also did graduate work from National University in Heredia, Costa Rica. Gary worked in the private sector for many years at Foster Farms, United Foods, and IDS/American Express.

His real calling was teaching and in 1988 began his teaching career at Carroll Fowler School in the Ceres Unified School District. He was also in charge of technology for the school. Gary taught mostly sixth grade for 20 years. He enjoyed working with his many students and colleagues. Gary retired in June 2008.

Late in the summer of 2011, Gary traveled to Lebanon to marry his sweetheart. Shortly afterward, he was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor and spent months in and out of hospitals. His wife Claire took care of him at home with the help of Community Hospice, Hughson, CA.

Services will be held Monday, Dec. 10, at 4:30 p.m. at Harvest Presbyterian Church on Moffett Road in Ceres, directly across from Mae Hensley Jr. High.

One of Gary's favorite quotations was, "I'm not afraid of dying...I just don't want to be there when it happens!" by Woody Allen.

Gary will be missed by all.
