A Mass was held Friday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church for Gary Carter Schmidt, 62, of Hughson. He died Tuesday, March 15, 2005 at Emanuel Medical Center in Turlock.
Burial was at Lakewood Memorial Park under the direction of Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel.
Born May 17, 1942, Mr. Schmidt was a native of Modesto and had lived in Hughson since 1960. He was senior vice president of Golden State Utility Co. in Turlock for 14 years, a farmer and a former owner of Nielsen-Schmidt Blacksmith & Welding in Hughson. Mr. Schmidt graduated from Modesto Junior College. He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Hughson. He enjoyed playing cards and travel.
Mr. Schmidt leaves behind his wife, Judy M. Schmidt of Hughson; five children, Suzanne Weststeyn of Hughson, Kristine Potter of Modesto, and Janette Schmidt, Jeffrey Schmidt and Nicole Trevino, all of Turlock; his father, Dr. Harold J. Schmidt of Hughson; his brother, Walter J. Schmidt of Hughson; his sister, Lynda Stuart of Rosedale, Va.; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, Laverne Schmidt.
