A funeral Mass was held Friday at St. Anthony's Church in Hughson for Genevieve "Vee" Baptista, 97, of Turlock. The former Hughson resident died Feb. 14, 2011 in San Diego.

Burial was at Lakewood Memorial Park under the direction of Turlock Funeral Home.

Born Sept. 11, 1913 in Hughson to Joe and Conceicao Baptista, Vee was raised in Hughson. In 1930 she married Enos Baptista and was married for 55 years until his passing. In 1940 she moved to Los Banos where they farmed. They retired to Santa Cruz to be closer to her parents. After living in Oakdale for several years, Mrs. Baptista moved back to Turlock. And age 94, she moved to San Diego to be closer to her family. Genevieve was an excellent cook, gardener, and seamstress. She loved her family and loved to have company.

She leaves behind her daughter, Alice Splitstone of San Diego; her grandchildren, Lisa Floyd of San Diego and Michael Splitstone of Oakdale; and two great-grandchildren, Alyssa Splitstone and Ryan Splitstone, both of Oakdale. She was preceded in death by husband Enos Baptista, her parents, and brothers Antonio, Ferdnand and Ernest Baptista.

Remembrances may be sent to a favorite charity.
