A funeral service was held at Monday at the Hughson United Methodist Church for Gerald "Gary" Stegall, 89, of Hughson. He died May 16, 2008 at Alexander Cohen Hospice House in Hughson with his daughter and wife at his side.

Burial will be at a later date at the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Santa Nella.

Born July 3, 1918, Mr. Stegall was a veteran of World War II, having served in the 54th Signal Battalion of the Air Force. Gary was a truck driver for 65 years. He was known as a gifted joke and story teller. Mr. Stegall was a charter member of Hughson CRS, and belonged to E Clampus Vitus, SIRS, American Legion and the VFW.

He leaves behind his wife, Patricia Stegall of Hughson; his daughters, Kendis Bettencourt, Karen and Penny; sons, Scott and Gale; and eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by son Curtis Stegall, sister Dorothy Francis and brother Harold Stegall.
