A funeral service was held Sunday at the McHenry Chapel of Franklin & Downs for Gertrude Jocelyn Holden LaConte, 82, of Hughson. She died Sunday, July 11, 2004 at her home.

Private burial was at the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery near Santa Nella.

Born Sept. 25, 1921, Mrs. LaConte was a native of San Diego and lived in Hughson all her life. Mrs. LaConte, a Modesto High School graduate of 1938, was employed as a lab technician in food processing. She was a 4-H leader at Stanislaus Union School. She was a member of the Catholic Church, Native Daughters of the Golden West, Morada Parlor 199 and Teamsters. Mrs. LaConte enjoyed making wedding cakes.

She leaves behind three children, Richard James LaConte of Seattle, and Joanne Marie LaConte and Frank James "Jim" LaConte, both of Hughson; her brother, Edward Holden of Modesto; and 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank James LaConte; daughter, Delaina Mae LaConte; one brother; and one sister.
