A Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Hughson for Gilbert Y. Garcia, 65, of Ceres. He died Dec. 9, 2009 in Modesto.
Burial was at Ceres Memorial Park under the direction of Allen Mortuary in Turlock.
Born February 1944 in Cottonwood, Ariz., Gilbert moved to California as a toddler. The family lived in Mendota and then Livingston where Gilbert worked for many years as a laborer in the agricultural fields. He later worked on the custodial staff at the Selma Herndon School in Livingston. Gilbert was known as a happy person who enjoyed joking with friends and spending time with grandchildren.
He leaves behind three sons, Gilbert Garcia Jr. of Ceres, Eddie Garcia of Livingston, and Michael Garcia of Hilmar; three brothers, Ray Garcia of Turlock, John Garcia of Denair, and Steve Garcia of Turlock, his sister, Fermina Jaramillo of Turlock; and six grandchildren, Raena, Jordan, Nicholas, Alexia, Alyssa, and Kiana. He was preceded in death by his companion of 20 years, Myrtle Holley in June.
