A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Calvary Baptist Church, 1732 Miller Ave., Modesto, for Gordon George Ware, 67, of Modesto. He died Nov. 25, 2008 after a six-year battle with cancer.

Born Aug. 24, 1941, Gordon was a native of Henryetta, Okla. George grew up in the Ceres and Hughson areas where he attended schools. He graduated from California State University, Stanislaus with a bachelor of arts degree in History. He was an Army veteran, serving from 1964-69. George loved to read, walk and take care of his pets. He loved the simple life.

He leaves behind his wife Rosemary Ware of Modesto; his stepson, David Donald Sneed; his brother, Phillip Kenny Ware; and his granddaughter, Emily Marie Sneed. He was preceded in death by parents Troy Ware and Verlie Hastey-Ware and brother Vaughn Paul Ware.
