A Celebration of Life will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, April 1 at the Elks Lodge, at 645 Charity Way, Modesto, for Gregory Bettencourt, 51, of Modesto. He died March 25, 2011 in Modesto.
Born July 25, 1959 in Ceres. Greg graduated from Modesto High School. He was a campus supervisor at Hanshaw Middle School in south Modesto for 20 years and was known as the "face of Hanshaw." A gentle giant, Mr. Bettencourt had a gift for communicating and putting all at ease. Greg was respected, admired and loved by all those who knew him. Greg enjoyed riding his motorcycle, fishing, drag racing and helping others.
He is survived by his mother, Billie Fleming; his brother, Tony Bettencourt; his stepdaughter, Michelle Childers; his grandmother, Mae Mooneyham; and grandson Caleb. He was preceded in death by father Ed Bettencourt.
Remembrances may be sent to the Greg Bettencourt Memorial Fund to benefit Hanshaw Middle School at any West America Bank location..
