A memorial will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. today (Sept. 1) for Harold Wayne Raney, 81, of Ceres. He died Aug. 23, 2010 at Evergreen Convalescent Hospital in Modesto.

Born Sept. 4, 1928 to Se and Roxie Kitchen in Barley County, Texas, Harold lived in the Ceres-Modesto area since 1949. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1946 to 1948. Mr. Raney was a member of the Modesto Boggeys, Ceres Senior Citizens Club and the Alzheimer's support group of Modesto. He was an avid golfer, fan of the San Francisco 49ers and a professional boxer.

He leaves behind his wife of 40 years, Betty Raney of Ceres; his children, Daryle Raney and Michelle Raney, both of Jamestown; his stepchildren, Mark Hoover of Arizona, Harry Hoover of Turlock and Barbara Rogers of Modesto; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings.
