A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Grace Community Christian Church, 3754 E. Service Road, Ceres, for Harry W. Peters, 81, of Ceres. He died Sept. 10, 2008.

Born Feb. 27, 1927, Mr. Peters was a native of Empire but lived about 75 years of his life in Ceres. He served in the Navy from 1945 to 1951 as an E class electronics technician and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. Mr. Peters was a member of the Modesto Motorcycle Club from 1943 to 1960. He worked for Robic Refrigeration as a repairman and was known as being able to fix anything. Mr. Peters was an avid fisherman, hunter and boater and he enjoyed camping, golfing and traveling to all but five of the 50 states. His favorite fishing spots were on New Melonies and Don Pedro reservoirs.

Mr. Peters was a deeply committed Christian who was a youth leader, Sunday School teacher, choir member, sound technician and leader. He was a member of Grace Community Christian Church.

He leaves behind his wife, Dorris L. Atwell Peters of Ceres; four children, Marsha Thom of Sacramento, Diana Doolittle of Puyallup, Wash., Tim Peters of Ceres, Jeannine Wrigley of Modesto; and 10 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. He wsa preceded in death by his parents Walter and Betty Peters, sisters Bessie and Viola, brother Arnold Peters and granddaughters Analyse, Sierra Rose, Elizabeth and Lilian.
