Harvey A. Humphrey

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. today at Allen Mortuary in Turlock for Harvey Arthur Humphrey, 85, of South Modesto. He died recently at Evergreen Rehabilitation Care Center in Modesto.

Burial will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park.

Born in December, 1924, Harvey was one of 11 children born to Joseph and Bertha Humphrey in Rupert County, Ark. In the late 1930s they moved to California. He joined the Army in 1943 and served in World War II. After the Army, Harvey added some college classes. He was an avid outdoorsman; he loved hunting and fishing. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and a former member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW).

He leaves behind his daughter Marie Collins of Ceres; his sisters, Myrtle Renecker of Grants Pass, Ore., and Ruby Snyder of Ceres; his brothers, Harley Humphrey of Modesto, and Levi Humphrey of Redway; and two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Yvonne in 2006, and several siblings.
