A memorial service was held Thursday at the First United Methodist Church in Modesto for James C. Sorenson, 92, of Ceres. He died April 6, 2010.

A graveside service followed at Lakewood Memorial Park in Hughson.

Born Nov. 29, 1917 in Turlock, Jim, also known as "Bud," was a long time resident of Ceres and business leader in Modesto. He was the founder of James C. Sorensen Construction, Inc., and was responsible for building many commercial structures in Modesto and the Valley. A lifetime pilot, airplane mechanic and flight enthusiast, Jim, ew across the globe in his twin-engined Baron Beechcraft and the two vintage 'Sea Bee' planes which he restored.

He leaves behind his daughter, Susan Robinson; his grandchildren, Christine Bienvenue, Erin Nohava and James Service; and great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Bienvenue and Jodi Bienvenue and Bryce Nohava. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years Christina "Dete" Sorensen, and daughter Shirley Sorensen.
