A graveside service was held Friday at Ceres Memorial Park for James Clinton Ellis Jr., 87, of Ceres. He died in his sleep on April 22, 2010.
Born Aug. 25, 1922, near Forks of Salmon in Siskiyou County, James was adopted at a very young age by his grandparents, James C. Ellis and Elizabeth Reece Brazille. He attended schools in Etna, Yreka and Los Molinos, graduating high school in 1941. James served in the Coast Guard. He met and married Elva Johnston while attending U.C. Berkeley. They lived in Santa Rosa, Porterville, Hughson and Ceres. Elva died in in 2001.
He leaves behind his wife, Phyllis Emerson Fox Ellis; two children, Robert Ellis of Modesto, and Diane Ellis of Santa Rosa; and four stepchildren, Jerry Fox of San Jose, Teddy Fox of Los Molinos, Lester Fox of Los Molinos, and Robin Thompson of Red Bluff.
