A graveside service will be held at noon on Friday, March 25 at Lakewood Memorial Park for James "Butch" M. Sanford, Sr., 59, of Ceres. He died Friday, March 18, 2005.

Born February 28, 1946, Mr. Sanford was a native of Modesto, and was a lifelong resident of Ceres. He worked in the auto body repair industry his entire life. His fascination with cars began at an early age. He once traded his interest in a fledgling chicken business with his brother, Joe, for his brother's interest in a car. He started at Scoggins' Body Shop in Hughson, moved on to Bonander Pontiac in Turlock and later Advanced Auto Body in Modesto. Mr. Sanford also enjoyed working with wood, creating beautiful projects that fill the homes of his many friends and family. He was also an avid fisherman, hunter, water and snow skier and golfer, even once getting to see his name in the paper for a "hole in one."

He leaves behind his wife, Carolyn Sanford of Ceres; two children, James "Jim" Sanford Jr. and Jana Bullock, both of Ceres; his mother, Jo Francis Sanford of Ceres; his brother, Joe Janelle Sanford of Ceres; and five grandchildren, Austin Sanford, Clayton Sanford, Chase Sanford, Kash Bullock and Kennedy Bullock, all of Ceres. He was preceded in death by his father, Orville Sanford, and his sister, Patsy Coble.

Remembrances may be sent to Community Hospice, 601 McHenry Ave., Modesto, CA 95350.
