Allen Mortuary of Turlock was in charge of arrangements for James Mitchell, 72, of Ceres. He died May 18, 2010 at his home.

Born in May 1938 in Kentucky, James grew up and graduated from high school in Indianapolis, Ind. He married Carol in 1978 in Bakersfield and they returned to live in California in 1990. James was a welder and maintenance worker. He worked for a feed mill and for Con-Agra for 20 years. Mr. Mitchell enjoyed fishing, but his greatest enjoyment came from spending time at home with his family.

He leaves behind his wife of 31 years, Carol Mitchell of Ceres; his daughter, Melissa Mitchell of Ceres; two step-children, Tina Hilton of Titusville, Fla., and Richard Fontaine of Hartford, Ct.; and five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one great-grandchild.
