A Mass of Christian burial was held Friday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church for former Ceres Unified School District Business Manager James Philip Hardy, 81, of Modesto. He died July 21, 2008 following a courageous battle with Parkinson's and Alzheimers Disease.
Lakewood Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Born Jan. 20, 1927, Mr. Hardy was a native of Sacramento and graduated from Sacramento High School in 1944. He received his bachelor's degree from Santa Clara University in 1950, and his master's degree from Sacramento State University in 1960. Jim served in the Army from 1946 to 1948. He began his career in education as a teacher in the Rio Linda School District, and in 1970 went on to become superintendent and president of the West Valley Joint Community College District in Saratoga. He was an active member of the Saratoga and Ceres Rotary Clubs. He served as the business manager of CUSD.
He leaves behind his wife of 32 years, Melanie Hardy of Modesto; his five children, Christopher Hardy, Elizabeth Zapper, Megan Moncada, Jennifer Moreno and Melissa Gales; and six grandchildren, Dustin Zapper, Jordan Zapper, Ashley Hardy, Laura Hardy, Rebecca Moncada and Joaquin Moreno.
