A memorial service was held Sunday at Sunrise Christian Church for Jay B. Casey, 76, of Denair. He died Wednesday,May 19, 2004 at Emanuel Medical Center in Turlock.

Allen Mortuary in Turlock was in charge of arrangements.

Born May 4, 1928, Mr. Casey was a native of Oklahoma and lived in Denair and in Stanislaus County since 1957. He owned and operated Turlock Van and Storage and later Casey North American Van Lines. He was honored as Man of the Year and served as past president of Kiwanis. Mr. Casey was a member of the Turlock Chamber of Commerce, California Movers Association, Ducks Unlimited, Rodeo Association and the Yosemite Area Council, Boy Scouts of America. While with the Boy Scouts, he was honored with the Silver Beaver Award and the Order of the Arrow.

He leaves behind a number of local survivors, including wife, Luella Casey of Denair; nine children, Jackie Terry of Hughson, Kaye Hansen of Fresno, James Casey of Ceres, Jerry Casey of Columbia, Judy Smith of Sonora, Jay B. Casey Jr. and John Casey, both of Turlock, Leslie Miller of Las Vegas and Robert "Bobby" Uher of Maui, Hawaii; six brothers, Red Casey of Ceres, Al Casey, Paul Casey and Coy Casey, all of Modesto, James Casey of Phoenix and Roy Casey of Turlock; three sisters, Catherine Stiles of Ripon, Martha McNamara of Ceres and Betty Faye Thomas of Turlock; and 18 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Joe Casey.
