Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday and from 8:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. on Friday at Hillview Funeral Chapel in Newman for Jesus "Jessie" Mendez, 48, of Ceres. He died Jan. 14, 2010 in Gustine.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at St. Joachim's Catholic Church in Newman. Burial will follow at Hills-Ferry Cemetery in Newman.
Born Dec. 2, 1961 Mr. Mendez was a native of Patterson and a resident of Ceres for 10 years. He previously resided in Newman. Jesus was a truck driver for 26 years and was last employed by Mello Milk Transportation Company. He was a parishioner of Saint Joachim's Catholic Church in Newman and also attended mass at St. Jude's Catholic Church in Ceres. He was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, and he had a passion for everything western and horses. He loved spending time with his family.
He leaves behind his wife, Linda Mendez of Ceres; three children, Jamey Silva, Aron Silva and Sawnya Silva, all of Hilmar; his brother, Arnulfo Mendez, Jr. of Newman; five sisters, Maria Elena Garcia of Lathrop, Maria Luisa Mendez of Lathrop, Rosa Lopez of Newman, Carolina Martinez of Patterson and Adela Rayon of Newman; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by parents Arnulfo and Amalia Mendez.
