A memorial service was held Friday at Turlock Funeral Home for Jim Ray Applegate, 78, of Hughson. He died May 27, 2009.
Burial was private.
Born Dec. 18, 1930 at home in Wagoner County Okla., to John and Sarah Applegate, Jim grew up in Oklahoma. After marrying wife Mary, they came to California in 1957 to work on farms, ultimately finding peach picking work. In 1968 Jim began working for Hennings Brothers, a well drilling company, where he remained for 30 years. He then found work with his brother Jerry Applegate. Jim retired in 1999. Mr. Applegate enjoyed telling stories about life in Oklahoma where his life's passion was hunting and fishing. He enjoyed spending time with his family.
He leaves behind his wife of 53 years, Mary Applegate of Hughson; three sons, John Applegate, Mike Applegate and Paul Applegate; his brother, Jerry Applegate; and seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by son Rick Applegate, brothers Bill Applegate and David Applegate and sister May Tiger.
