Joe Reis Machado

Jan. 6, 1933 - March 15, 2014

Joe Reis Machado, 81, entered into rest on Saturday, March 15, 2014 after a short illness at English Oaks Convalescent Center in Modesto.

He was born on Jan. 6, 1933 in Modesto and attended Jones School in the Westport area and Ceres High School.

Joe enjoyed farming - proudly watching his son carry on the family business - and went on many hunting trips. He served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Korean War where he served as a chef in a doctor's hospital. Mr. Machado was an honorary member of the Westport Firefighters Assocation, a member of the Old Fisherman's Club, MPPA and Stanislaus Farm County Bureau.

Joe is survived by a wonderful family - his wife Dolores Machado; his son, Joseph "Joey" Machado and wife Arlene; a daughter, Judith "Judy" Roberts and her husband Kevin; five grandchildren, Kalie Machado and fiancé Daniel, Kamryn "Kamie" Machado, Andrew Roberts, Keaton Machado, and Brandon Roberts; and godchildren, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, great nephews, great nieces, many cousins and friends.

The family thanks Reverend Sam West and Deacon Jose A. Reyes of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church for their many visits; also for the doctors and staff at English Oaks; and to many neighbors and friends with their caring prayers.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests with gratitude that any memorial contributions in Joe's memory be made to Westport Firefighters Association, 5160 S. Carpenter Road, Modesto CA 95358; or to the Sisters of the Cross, Hwy. 132 Maze Blvd., Modesto CA 95351.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Franklin & Downs. No funeral services were in honor of Joe's wishes, only a private Christian burial and final resting place at the St. Stanislaus Cemetery Mausoleum.
