A funeral service was held Monday at the Ceres chapel of Franklin and Downs for John Bernard "Sham" Shamlin, 95, of Ceres. He died May 7, 2011 at his home in Ceres where he lived for over 50 years.

Burial was at Ceres Memorial Park.

Born June 23, 1915, he was a retired Ceres postmaster and Navy veteran of World War II. He married Bea Castleman on Nov. 11, 1947 in Carson City, Nev. They lived in Oakland, Washington D.C., Hyattsville, and Indian Head, Md., and Hayama, Japan. Mr. Shamlin had been a member of the Ceres American Legion post 491 and the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

He leaves behind a brother, Leo Sham. He was preceded in death by wife Lillian Beatrice "Bea" Shamlin, daughter Carol Anne Landers, his parents, brothers and sisters.
