A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 18 at Christ Community Church, 3242 Carver Rd., Modesto, for Joseph D. Naranjo, 65, of Modesto. He died Feb. 1, 2010.

Born March 19, 1944 as one of nine children of Macario Naranjo and Elena Alejandre Naranjo, Joseph grew up in Ceres and graduated from Ceres High in 1962. Joe received an honorable discharge from the Army in 1966. Actively involved in the community throughout his life, Mr. Naranjo was a member of the Modesto Lions 500 Club and the McHenry Village Merchants Association. His career in flowers began with Loomis Floral, then moved to Dean Floral of Turlock, and then Ron Simi's Flower shop in McHenry Village. Joe stayed with Ron Simi's for a number of years. Joe purchased Flowers by Lauri in Manteca in 1985, operating it for over 20 years with the help of his wife, Vivian. He enjoyed spending time with family and grandchildren.

He leaves behind his wife, Vivian Naranjo of Modesto; his children, Michael Naranjo of Ripon, and Michelle Goodreau of Oakdale; his brothers, Marcus Naranjo and Louis Naranjo, both of Santa Rosa, Jess Naranjo of Fresno, and Jesse Torres of Modesto; and his grandchildren Paul, Mia, Kyle and Kaylee. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Frank Torres, and Vincent Naranjo, and sisters Teresa Torres Delgado, Marcelina Naranjo and Maria Elena Naranjo.
