A graveside service was held Friday at Lakewood Memorial Park for Julian Francis Munoz, 76, of Hughson. He died Dec. 1, 2008 at Memorial Medical Center in Modesto.

Born Dec. 30, 1931, Mr. Munoz was a native of Wilmington, Calif. He served in the Navy aboard the USS Wiseman (DE667) from 1950 to 1954 during the Korean War. Julian was the recipient of seven battle stars. For 30 years Mr. Muniz worked in the food industry as a mechanical engineer. He retired as chief plant engineer from Safeway Stores, Inc. in 1989. He was known for being able to fix anything mechanical which came in handy when he and his wife, Joyce decided to purchase a walnut orchard. Julian enjoyed boating, working in his orchard, racing motorcycles and playing drums in several bands.

He leaves behind his wife of 54 years, Joyce Ann of Hughson; two children, Joan Heath of Modesto and Joseph Bryant Munoz of Pacifica; two brothers, Fidel Munoz of Oakdale and Vincent Munoz of Riverbank; and one grandchild, Jon Austin Heath of Modesto. He was preceded in death by parents Fidel and Carmen Munoz, sister Madeline Numan and brother Martin Munoz.
