A service was held May 4 at Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel for Katherine L. Ryder, 95, of Modesto. She died April 25, 2009 in Modesto.
Interment was at Acacia Memorial Park.
Born July 13, 1913 in Grand Rapids, Mich., Katherine came to Ceres in 1948. She started the Melody Corner Book Store in 1954 in Ceres. Mrs. Ryder also worked for Stanislaus County as an account clerk. She attended First Baptist Church of Ceres for many years and over the last nine years enjoyed services at Bethel Retirement Home. She enjoyed serving the Lord, her family and loved music.
She leaves behind three children, Beverly Fonda of Ceres, Richard C. Ryder of Turlock and Lois A. Shearer of Banks, Ore.; and 11 grandchildren, Donald Fonda, Doreen Rutherford, David Fonda, Douglas Fonda, Daniel Fonda, Kelly DeLeon, Michael Ryder, Chad Ryder, Jeffery Shearer, Cheryl Shearer and Joel Shearer; and 16 great-grandchildren.
