A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at CrossPoint Community Church in the Chapel, 12th & M streets, Modesto, for Kenneth Macy Rowe, 63, of Modesto. He died Nov. 23, 2011.

Born May 13, 1948 in Modesto to Russell and Jessie Rowe, Ken grew up on River Road in Ceres where he and his friends made the river their playground, and on Enslen Avenue in Modesto. He graduated from Ceres High School and Modesto Junior College. Ken participated in Boy Scouts, Demolay and had a love for baseball which he played and coached for many years. As an Air Force technical sergeant, Mr. Rowe was a member of a unit that had earned its sixth consecutive Outstanding Unit Award and the second straight with the "V" device for valor. The 1964th Communication Group, with headquarters at Tan San Nhut AB, Vietnam, was cited for training and assisting the Republic of Vietnam Air Force and for providing direct communications and air traffic control support to USAF and Vietnamese units. When Ken left the Air Force after two terms in Viet Nam he became a soil analyst and traveled to various places. He settled in Southern California but traveled to Georgia, Virginia, Panama, Kentucky and Hawaii.

He leaves behind his wife, Kathy Rowe; his son, Christopher Rowe; his sister, Deanna Rowe Morris; three grandchildren, Kaden Rowe, Kenzie Rowe and Mason Rowe; and first wife Karen Wilson.
