A service was held at Lakewood Funeral Home on Friday for Leona Irene Fountain, 83, of Hickman. She died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2007
Born Sept. 12, 1923, Mrs. Fountain was born in Rhode Island to Robert and Agnes Tait. Leona was a homemaker and long time resident of Stanislaus County. She was a member of several organizations that included the Tri- W Waterford Womens Club, the Mended Hearts, Waterford- Hickman Fire Department Auxiliary and the Waterford Ladies Lions Club. She also was active in the Tuesday Morning Club the Hickman PTA as an officer and the Hickman 4-H Club.
Leona was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 60 years Merle Fountain who passed away in April of 2005. He was a graduate of Ceres High School who later developed the Fountain variety of peach.
She leaves behind her children, Sally Hummer of Oakdale, and Merle Fountain Jr. of Hickman; her grandchildren, Libia Borrelli of Hickman and Maxim Hummer of Oakdale; and two great-grandchildren, Hayden Borrelli and Zeona Borelli. She was also preceded in death by sister Agnes Fountain and brothers Robert Tait and John Tait.
