A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church, 1620 Anderson Road, Davis, for Leona May Rohde, 99, of Davis. The former Ceres resident died April 3, 2012 surrounded by family members.

Born in Michigan on September 14, 1912, Leona graduated from Horner High School and later moved to Yosemite National Park with her family where she met her future husband of 52 years, Alvin Rohde of Ceres. Leona was one of the original "Rosie the Riveters" at the Richmond Ship Yard during World War II and was the first woman elected to the Ceres School Board. Leona was an artist and her home and garden were part of the regular tours. Her handmade cards were anticipated by anyone fortunate enough to receive one. She lived the past 12 years with her daughter Karen in Davis where she made many new friends who will miss her. Mrs. Rohde often would tell her grandchildren tales of nature and of Yosemite bear stories.

She leaves behind her daughter Karen Fortin of Davis; three brothers; two sisters; and three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was proceeded in death by husband Alvin.

Remembrances may be sent to Hospice or the Salvation Army.
