A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Lakewood Memorial Park for Lois Nichols Thompson, 95, of Ceres. She died Feb. 27, 2010 at the Alexander Cohen Hospice House in Hughson.

Born May 5, 1914, Mrs. Thompson was born in Storm Lake, Iowa, as the oldest of five children born to Earl and Helene Caulkins. Her family moved to Ceres in 1924. Lois was a graduate of the 1933 class of Ceres High School. She married Floyd Nichols in 1933 and lived in various locations in California before settling in Ceres in 1944. Lois was a homemaker and also worked for Ceres school cafeterias for 10 years. She enjoyed playing bingo and was a member of the Ceres Senior Citizens Club for many years.

She leaves behind her son, William "Nick" Nichols of Modesto; two grandchildren, Christina Bunch of Hughson and Amy Stokes of Modesto; and six great-grandchildren, Zachary Villarreal, Daniel Villarreal and Nora Villarreal, and Jessica Stokes, Ali Stokes and Jackey Stokes; and a stepgrandson, Randy King. She was preceded in death by husbands Floyd Nichols and Chet Thomson, sister Verna Denlis and brothers Everett Caulkins, Wayne Caulkins and Ken Caulkins.
