The rosary was held Monday at St. Joachim's Catholic Church in Newman for Manuel L. Teixeira Jr., 80, of Ceres. He died Sunday, April 4, 2004 at Memorial Medical Center in Modesto.
A Mass was Tuesday at the church.
Burial was at Hills Ferry Cemetery in Newman. Hillview Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Born Feb. 3, 1924, Mr. Teixeira was a native and resident of Newman until 1951. He lived in Modesto from 1951-2002 and in Ceres the past two years. Mr. Teixeira was a 1942 graduate of Orestimba High School in Newman. He was a truck driver for 60 years and had worked at Smart Trucking. Mr. Teixeira was a member of St. Jude's Catholic Church in Ceres and UPEC in Newman. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
He leaves behind his wife, Mary Teixeira of Turlock; two sons, Mel Teixeira of Turlock and Merv Teixeira of Patterson; his sister, Alvina Mederios of Modesto; and six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
