Service were held Monday at Lakewood Funeral Home and Modesto Christian Reformed Church for Marion Van Houten, 81, of Hughson. He died July 14, 2008 at the Alexander Cohen Hospice House in Hughson.
Lakewood Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Born May 13, 1927, Mr. Van Houten was a native of Wilmer, Minn., and had lived in Modesto and Hughson since 1970. He was a retired maintenance engineer from Memorial Medical Center, and enjoyed fishing and the outdoors.
He leaves behind his children, Sharon Gurule and William Van Houten both of Modesto, and Cynthia Dotinga of Oakdale; sisters, Kate Van Der Gang of Denver, Colo., Louise Schemper of Bellflower and Bernice Viss of Bridgeport; a brother, Arthur Van Houten of Lancaster; and 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by son Gary Van Houten; brothers John Van Houten, Paul Van Houten, Richard Van Houten, Bernard Van Houten, Dick Van Houten and Cornelius Van Houten; and grandson Christopher Dotinga.
