A memorial service was held Friday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Modesto for arion "Marnie" Ruth Zipser, 78, of Ceres. She died Feb. 15, 2008.

Born Feb. 9, 1930, Mrs. Zipser was a native of Omaha, Neb. In 1948 she came to Modesto with her mother and sister. In 1950 Marion met and married the love of her life Henry "Hank" Zipser who died in June. They spent the rest of their lives on a farm on Faith Home Road outside of Ceres. She was a homemaker and bookkeeper for the farm. Mrs. Zipser was also a community leader and volunteer. She served as president of Retirement Housing in Modesto in the 1970s and early 1980s. She led lead in the building of Ralston Towers and Marple Manor in Modesto. Marion was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority for over 50 years. Marion was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal church in Modesto and Christ the King Church in Riverbank where she served as a Lay Eucharistic Minister and served communion for hundreds of shut-ins.

Mrs. Zipser enjoyed golf and was one of the original members of the Muni Niners.

She leaves behind her children, Steven Zipser of Sequim, Wash., and Wayne Zipser of Turlock, Christina Stoll of Sacramento and Robyn DeHart of Lemoore; her sister, Janet Felice of Modesto; and eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Remembrances may be sent to Community Hospice.
