Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at Franklin & Downs Funeral Home in Modesto for Mary A. Jacobs, 74, of Modesto. She died Jan. 30, 2009 after a brief battle with brain cancer.

A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at First Baptist Church, 12th & M streets, Modesto.

Born March 31, 1934, Mary was a native of Calumet, Mich. She attended Michigan State University where she was pursuing her PhD. She met her husband Richard there. Mrs. Jacobs moved with her family to Modesto in 1971 and a year later founded JL Analytical Services, Inc., in South Modesto. Mary served as the lab director and president. Mary was a Sunday School teacher for approximately 20 years at the First Baptist Church, and for many years has been involved with Bible Study Fellowship, Child Evangelism Fellowship and ministering to patients at Seasons of Modesto Memory Care Facility. She enjoyed traveling, symphonies, gardening, knitting and photography.

She leaves behind her husband of 46 years, Dr. Richard Jacobs of Modesto; her sons, Dr. Mark Jacobs of East Lansing, Mich., and Scott Jacobs of Modesto; her sister, Barbara Deli of Wheaton, Ill.; and three brothers, Dr. William Adams of Columbus, Ohio, Dr. John Adams of Fairfax, Va., and Dr. Carl Adams of Minneapolis, Minn.; and two granddaughters, Sarah Jacobs and Laura Jacobs, both of East Lansing, Mich. She was preceded in death by parents Robert Adams and Dorothy Adams
