A Mass was held Monday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church for Mary Adele Pedro, 84, of Modesto. She died Jan. 20, 2008 peacefully at Memorial Medical Center.

Burial was at the St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery under the direction of the Colonial Chapel of Franklin & Downs.

Born Dec. 5, 1923 to Anthony and Josephine Souza at St. Mary's Hospital, in Modesto, Mrs. Pedro was a lifelong resident of the Ceres-Modesto area. After graduating from Modesto High School, she married Manuel Pedro in 1949, and moved to a farm in the Westport area west of Ceres to raise a family. She worked many years at J.C. Penney in the fabric department. Mrs. Pedro enjoyed tending to her flower garden, sewing, and being with family.

She leaves behind her husband of 58 years, Manuel Pedro of Modesto; her children, Kitty White, Joanne Palmaymesa, Gerald Pedro and Mike Pedro, all of Modesto, and Stanley Pedro of San Francisco; her sister, Lucille Farinha of Wheatland; two brothers Jim Souza of Modesto and Ben Souza of El Nido; and six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by brothers Edward Souza and John Souza.
