Maud Ussery

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Allen Mortuary in Turlock for Maud Ussery, 81, of Turlock. She died recently at her home after an extended illness.

Burial will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park.

Born October 1928 in Temple, Okla., to Ralph and Audrey Wheeler, Maud moved to Wichita Falls, Texas when young. She grew up and went to school in Texas. She moved to California in 1944 where she met Finley Ussery shortly after his return from serving in the Army in World War II. They married in July of 1945 and settled and worked in the Waterford area. Mrs. Ussery worked side by side with her husband while he drove truck to haul hay and fruit and beans. Maud and her family were also active in their church in Hughson while the children were growing up.

She leaves behind her children, Charles Ussery of Waterford and Dorothy Pontes of Turlock, and Darlene Lomeli of Modesto; two sisters, Lillian Yingst of Woodland and Merle Woody of Apple Valley; and 11 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded by an infant daughter in 1950, her husband Finley in 1988, and by son Harlan in January.
