A funeral was held Monday morning at Lakewood Funeral Home for Melvin "Mel" Morrison, 77, of Coulterville. He died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2004 at his home.

Burial was private.

Born Oct. 11, 1927, Mr. Morrison was a native of Clinton, Okla., and lived in Coulterville for a year and previously lived in Modesto for 50 years. He was a custom auto glass glazer and a musician. Mr. Morrison played guitar and other instruments and had been inducted into the Western Swing Society's Hall of Fame.

He leaves behind his wife, Hazel Morrison of Coulterville; three children, Anita Tyree-Fritchley of Coulterville, and Lorna Spears and Davis Morrison, both of Ceres; his sister, Evelyn Smith of Arkansas; and four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
