A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 22 At the Valley View Church of the Nazarene at in Ceres for Nina Holland, 88, of Ripon. The former Ceres resident died Sept. 13, 2009.

Born Jan. 25, 1921 in Los Angeles, Nina grew up in the Denair area on a ranch with four brothers and three sisters. She married husband Garlen in 1938 and then they moved to Modesto where Garlen worked as a warehouseman. He preceded her in death in September of 1988.

Mrs. Holland worked for the Hughson Elementary School as cafeteria manager for 18 years. She was always interested in foods and the human body. After her retirement she lived in Ceres, and continued to work with children by teaching Sunday school. She also served as church choir director, and children's pastor. Nina also served on the church board and Sunday School board. She moved to the Manor Apartments in Ripon, where she lived for 14 years. Then moved to Beth-Haven in the summer of 2000.

She leaves behind two daughters, Joan Hughes of Stockton, and Jane Lasater of Marble Falls, Ark.; and six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
