A local memorial service will be held in early August for Normal Jean Welborn Vieira, 77, of Roque River, Ore. The former Ceres resident died June 19, 2008.

Born Sept. 23, 1930, Norma Jean was a native of Phoenix, Ariz., born to Wayne and Fay Welborn as the oldest of five children. In 1942 the family moved from Arizona to Ceres. Norma graduated from Ceres High School. After graduating she worked as a secretary at John Ingles Frozen Foods and then she later worked in the Stanislaus County Clerk-Recorder's Office. She married Eugene Vieira in December of 1953. They had three sons: Jeffrey Vieira, Mark Vieira, and Eugene Vieira Jr. Mrs. Vieira enjoyed cooking, canning fruits and vegetables, camping, and family gatherings. She was active at St. Stanislaus Elementary School while her sons were in attendance there. Later in life she became a member of the First Baptist Church of Modesto and was active in their Bible study group. In 1995, after their son Mark died, Norma and Eugene Sr. moved to Roque River.

She leaves behind her sons, Jeffrey Vieira and Eugene Vieira Jr.; her brothers, Bob Welborn and Bill Welborn; her sisters, Bunny Donalson, and Pearl Welborn; her granddaughters, Erin Lucas, Gina Berger, Nashiel Vieira and Mark Joseph Vieira; and two great-grandchildren: Ayden Lucas and Molly Berger.
