A memorial service was held Tuesday at the Ceres Chapel of Franklin and Downs for Norma Jean Slayter, 77, of Ceres. She died Nov. 14, 2011 in the arms of her grandchildren.

A graveside service was held afterward at Ceres Memorial Park.

Born July 17, 1934, Norma was the daughter of Richard and Maggie Barker of Hughson. She resided in Ceres where she raised her family and lived for 48 years. She retired from Knudsen after 23 years and worked for Costco in Modesto as a food demonstrator for 17 years. Norma enjoyed life, she loved camping, and fishing. Her family and her home were her pride and joy.

She leaves behind her daughter, Lynn Verot; two brothers, Ralph Barker and Jim Barker; and her grandchildren, Stephanie Haygood, Jeffery Dyke, Chris Courtney, Shelley Dyke, Ryan Dyke and Kyle Dyke. She was preceded in death by sons Larry Dyke and Gary Dyke.
