The Ceres Chapel of Franklin & Downs was in charge of private burial at the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Santa Nella for Paul Henry Pyles, 71, of Ceres. He died Friday, July 22, 2005 at Memorial Medical Center in Modesto.

Born Aug. 6, 1933, Mr. Pyles was a native of Porter, Okla., and had lived in Ceres more for than 60 years. He was an employee of Contadina Foods for 10 years. Mr. Pyles enjoyed classic cars and walking. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War; he received a Silver Star.

He leaves behind his companion, Norma Sunshine Bays of Ceres; two children, Charles Pyles and Curry Pyles, both of Modesto; two half-brothers, Will Green of Marysville and Don Conley of Harrison, Tenn.; and five half-sisters, Ruth Reeder and Mary Ellen Taylor, both of Modesto, Fay Wells of Marysville, Hattie Hopkins of Mariposa and Louise Lasiter of Riverbank.
