Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday at Lakewood Funeral Home Chapel for Peggy K. Nunn, 93, of Modesto. The former Hughson resident died March 18, 2008.

A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Friday at Lakewood Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park.

Born April 17, 1914, Mrs. Nunn entered the world as Eva Mae Whisenant, a native of Ellijay, Ga. Peggy moved to Hughson in 1938. She was employed with Hughson schools for 10 years. She enjoyed teaching Sunday School and was superintendent of First Baptist church in Hughson. Mrs. Nunn also enjoyed cooking and baking formal meals for her family. She wrote poetry, was an avid reader and book collector. She was a self taught pianist and played coronet.

Peggy was widowed at age 67 after 51 years of marriage to Walter "Dick" Nunn. That same year, she drove cross country stopping at Washington, D.C. where she visited the Smithsonian Museum and Library of Congress to research genealogy. Peggy drove to the southern states several times also doing genealogical research. At age 70, she toured Europe with her daughter and son-in-law. Peggy spent her last years at Dale Commons in Modesto and with her children.

She leaves behind her four children, Harvey Nunn of Sutter Creek, Rita Barron of Bellingham, Wash., Dixie "Dee" Russell of Riverbank, Donald Nunn of Pantego, Texas; and 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
