A funeral service was held Tuesday at Hillview Funeral Chapel in Newman for Phil E. Baker, 63, of Modesto. He died April 28, 2012 in Hughson.

A graveside service was held at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Santa Nella, conducted by Hillview Funeral Chapel in Newman.

Born Jan 14, 1949 in Yakima, Wash., Phil was a resident of Modesto for 26 years. He was a maintenance machinist for 36 years and worked for Dairy Farmers of America in Hughson. He served in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. Mr. Bajker enjoyed baseball, football and softball. He was an avid San Francisco Giants fan, a storyteller and a friend to everybody.

He leaves behind his wife, Lois Baker of Newman; his children, Phillip Baker of Newman and Rachael Richardson of Newman; his brother, Howard Baker of Missouri; his sister, Nancy Alvarez of Modesto; his significant other, Elizabeth Smith and her family; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by parents Jack and Agnes Baker and brother Johnny Baker.
