Arrangements are being handled by Allen Mortuary of Turlock for Rachel May Hartt, 98, of Ceres. She died Oct. 1, 2011 at her home.

A memorial service is pending.

Inurnment will be at Turlock Memorial Park.

Born in March 1913 in Tyee, Ore., to Ellis and Clara Perkins, Rachel grew up in Oregon. In the early years her parents were farm workers and moved around with their work around the Oregon area. She married Arthur Hartt in 1930 and he worked as a carpenter. Mrs. Hartt enjoyed crocheting and quilting and teaching Bible study classes for family members and friends.

She leaves behind five children, Carolyn Hatfield of Ceres, Betty Smylie of Fullerton, Lila Huff of Ceres, Robert Hartt of Turlock, and Jonathan Hartt of Denair; her sister, Alice Dutton of Eugene, Ore.; and 17 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 53 years Arthur Hartt, and son Arthur Lee Hartt.
