Graveside services were held Tuesday at Ceres Memorial Park for Rachel Nadine Warthan, 74, of Ceres. She died Jan. 9, 2008 at Memorial Medical Center in Modesto after a short illness.
Born July 3, 1933, Mrs. Warthan was born in Ada, Okla., to Eva Mae Hammond and John Shipley. An only child, she lived most of her life in Ceres and graduated from Ceres High School. Mrs. Warthan was a homemaker and enjoyed houseboating, bingo and spending time with the children that she lived with. She loved to visit and talk about old times with her son, Butch Warthan.
She is also survived by two other children, Diana Gill Scherman and Patsy Silva; her grandchildren, Jody Gill of Turlock, Summer Warthan and Autumn Warthan, Mark Bettincourt and Andrea Bettincourt, all of Ceres, and Billy Warthan of Modesto; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter Teri Warthan and grandson Cody Warthan.
