A funeral service was held Saturday at Allen Mortuary for Raymond Scott McVey, 61, of Turlock. He died April 27, 2008 in Turlock after a courageous battle with cancer.

A veteran's burial was held at Lakewood Memorial Park.

Born Nov. 4, 1946, Mr. McVey was a native of Modesto and raised in Turlock. He was a cowboy rancher before he enlisted in the Army serving 19 months in Vietnam. He was employed as a truck driver for 16 years. Mr. McVey belonged to the Ceres VFW Post 10293. Raymond enjoyed going everywhere with his dog, Dutch.

He leaves behind his wife, Mary McVey; his daughter, Mele Companion; his sisters, Joyce Harry and Sandra Clay; his mother, Mardell Clay; and four grandchildren, Matt Block, Keoni Block, Keawe Block and Mykel Block.
