A small Redwood City dinner was held Oct. 6 to honor the life of Rene Stark, of Menlo Park. The former Ceres resident died Aug. 31, 2007.

Mrs. Stark was born Pierena Zamaroni on August 18, 1911 in Ceres, to Vincenzo and Giacomina Zamaroni. Mrs. Stark attended grammar school in Ceres from 1917 to 1925 and Ceres High School from 1925 to 1929. She then studied at Modesto Junior College from 1929 to 1932.

Mrs. Stark worked at Stanislaus County Hospital from 1932 to 1936 before going to U.C. Berkeley from 1936 to 1938. She returned to Modesto Title Company to work from 1938 to 1939. She was employed at Boalt Law School on the U.C. Berkeley campus, from 1939 to 1941. During World War II she was employed at the U.S. Naval Air Station at Moffett Field. From 1945-46 she was employed at the Palo Alto Bookstore.

After her marriage in 1947 to G. Maynard Stark, the couple lived in Lawrence, Kansas for 14 years, Modesto and Palo Alto until his death in 1980.

She spent 1982 through 1999 as a volunteer for Beyond War/Foundation for Global Community.

She leaves behind her daughters, Sally Dawson and Nancy Stark; three grandchildren, Bryan Dawson, Kate Dawson and Anne Dawson; great granddaughters Gabrielle Otto, Sophia Otto, and twins Margaret Dawson and Alexis Dawson. Besides her husband, preceding her in death were brothers James Zamaroni, Ben Zamaroni and Frank Zamaroni.
