Rev. John G. Howard

A funeral was held Thursday at the Colonial Chapel of Franklin & Downs for the Rev. John G. Howard, 80, of Modesto. He died Monday, May 17, 2004 at Doctors Medical Center.

Burial was at Lakewood Memorial Park.

Born Nov. 15, 1923, Rev. Howard was a native of Mount Pleasant, Texas, and lived in Modesto for 34 years. He was a minister and evangelist at various churches. He was a Boy Scout leader, and volunteered with and served on the board of directors of the Industrial Fire Department in South Modesto. Rev. Howard was an Army veteran of World War II, and received a Bronze Star while serving as a staff sergeant in the southern Philippine Islands and northern Solomon Islands. He enjoyed horses, fishing and gardening.

He leaves behind his wife, Pauline Howard of Modesto; five children, Wayne Howard and Debra Stump, both of Ceres, Darlene Buttram of Stockton, and Geary Howard and Donna Davids, both of Modesto; two brothers, Charles Howard of Tennessee and Fred Howard of Texas; sister, Minnie Dunn of Texas; and 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
