Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Hughson United Methodist Church, 6th & Fox St, Hughson, for Richard E. "Dick" Jones, 86, of Modesto. He died March 7, 2008 at his home.

Burial will be at Lakewood Memorial Park.

Born Oct. 2, 1921, Dick was born to Earl and Marion Jones in Joplin, Mo. He married the former Dorothy Lee Marble in 1947. Dick and Dorothy moved to Modesto in 1955. At that time he was traveling throughout Northern California selling wholesale hardware for the Sloss and Britain company. He left that company in the late 1950s, when he bought his own hardware store, LA Feed and Hardware, on Crows Landing Road. In 1964, he became a licensed realtor and worked for Bomberger Realty. In 1968, he and Paul Zagaris left Bomberger to open Paul M. Zagaris Realtors. Dick was vice president, directing sales and marketing for the company. Dick retired in 1979, but went back to work for the company for a short time in 1981 after Paul Zagaris died. He continued to be associated with PMZ Real Estate throughout his retirement. His first wife having died, in 1998, he married the former Julia Milne. Mr. Jones enjoyed traveling, hunting, golfing and producing hand-carved duck decoys. He belonged to the Oakdale Country Club.

He leaves behind his wife, Julia Jones of Modesto; his children, Susan Thomas of Turlock and Ken Jones of Cedar Crest, N.M.; his brothers, David Jones of Tucson, Ariz., and Dorothy Jones of Springfield, Mo.; and five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by wife Dorothy Jones in 1996, and brother Johnny Jones.
