Evins Funeral Home was in charge of private services for Robert "Bob" C. Nixon, 80, of Ceres. He died of natural causes on Tuesday, April 6, 2004 at his home in Ceres.

Born Sept. 6, 1923, Mr. Nixon was a native of Newburg, N.Y., and lived in Ceres for 30 years. He previously lived in Modesto for 15 years. Mr. Nixon served in the Army from 1942 to 1946 in the Pacific Theater. He served in the California National Guard and the Army Reserve in Modesto, Stockton and Oakdale for 13 years.

Mr. Nixon worked at the Oakdale Irrigation District and retired from the Sharpe Army Depot in Stockton after working 33 years as a welder shop leader man. He was a Boy Scout leader for Troop 56 for three years. Mr. Nixon was a Modesto Police reserve officer for five years. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, traveling, camping and wood-working.

He leaves behind his wife of 59 years, Margaret Nixon of Ceres; two sons, Robert Nixon and Gary Nixon, both of Modesto; three sisters, Grace Mindas of Medina, N.Y., Clara Kulisek of Cornwall, N.Y., and Delores Blomberg of New Winsor, N.Y.; his brother, Donald Nixon of New Winsor, N.Y.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Grace Nixon.
