A memorial service with a rosary was held at St. Jude's Catholic Church in Ceres, on Friday for Rosalia G. Houtchens, 54, of Ceres. She died Oct. 18, 2009.

Burial was at Lakewood Memorial Park.

Born Sept. 4, 1955, Rosalia earned her BSN from Trinity College of Quezon City and MSN from University of Phoenix before becoming a nursing instructor at Emanuel Medical Center in Turlock. She also taught at Modesto Junior College. Rosalia was very proud of becoming a U.S. citizen in March of 2004. Mrs. Houtchens was also a volunteer CCD teacher at St. Jude's Catholic Church in Ceres. She also was a Eucharistic minister and member of the Ladies Guild. She had a tremendous faith in God and was always willing to help others.

She enjoyed spending time with friends, dancing, long drives in the country, going to the beach, gardening, tending to her favored roses and sampaguita plant. She collected teddy bears, tiffany lamps, bells, cows, angels, roses and animals.

She leaves behind her husband, Greg Houtchens of Ceres; her children, Saundra Day, Bernadette Ancheta, Bianca Ancheta, Barry Ancheta, Joshua Houtchens and Brad Ancheta; her sisters, Imelda Matute, Ruby Macaulay, Irene Pusung and Kim Richter; her brother, Ramon Gaddi; and three grandchildren, Xavier Resendiz, Michael "Kila" Day and Kiana Day.
