Ruth A. Simpson, beloved mother and cherished grandmother, entered into rest Saturday, Sept. 8 after a short hospitalization.
A dedicated Ceres resident, Ruth was active in the Ceres Woman's Club, best known for making and selling her reversible aprons to raise funds, and the Ceres Senior Citizens Club. Known as the "Burger Mama" in the 1950s, Ruth and her deceased husband Bob ran Burger 19 for many years before opening Chew N Chat, a well known Ceres diner. They served many travelers along Highway 99 until their retirement in 1978. Bob and Ruth then traveled cross country to New York and Florida in their Executive motor home.
She loved visits to the casino, playing cards with her friends, watching Oakland A's and SF Giants games, and quiet time at the beach, especially Pismo.
She is survived by her daugher, Phyllis Thornton of Ceres; her granddaughters, Rachelle Vargas (Ed), and Tisha LeCouve (Steve); her sister, Charmaine Pearson (Jim); and six great grandchildren, Nolan, Eddie and Wyatt Vargas, Jarod, Jacob and Jacquelyn LeCouve.
A graveside service will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012 at Ceres Memorial Park.
